tuamotus Surfing Adventure

The Tuamotus Islands season for surfing lasts from October to March and the waves are hollow tubes over shallow coral. You can choose between a left or a right hander on the reef passes. The Tuamotu Islands have tons of islands in the group and you could spend an eternity searching around all the islands and reefs. The water temperature ranges from around 25 degrees Centigrade (81 degrees Fahrenheit) to about 27 degrees. So you will not be cold at all or need a wetsuit. But bring plenty of zinc cream because the sun will burn your face and back to a crisp.

The Avatoru Pass, Rangiroa is a hollow fast ledging right-hander wave for experts and madmen. It works best on a mid or a high tide with the tide rising or falling. The wave starts working at about six to eight feet and hold up to about a fifteen foot wave. The best wind is a South-wester with the swell from the north-west or the north-east. The wave is a heavy wave with large sucking tubes off the reef. The break is very shallow and rocky and there is a lot of current because the ocean pours out of the lagoon through this pass. To get there you will need a boat. This wave is not visited very often and is very expensive to get here.
