Surfing Teahupoo tahiti

Teahupoo is on the main island of Tahiti and is the most famous wave in all Tahiti. The Billabong surf pro contest is held there every year and is shown on all the news bulletins all round the world. I am sure you have seen it. Some people say that it is the heaviest wave in the world. Teahupoo is at the southwest corner of Tahiti Iti the little part of Tahiti. Teahupoo receives the souther swells straight from the Roaring Forties and Antarctica. Teahupoo is a fifteen minute paddle from land. And of course the bottom is a coral reef that can maim and destroy.

The best tide to ride the dangerous monster that is Teahupoo is high tide with plenty of water over the reef. The ideal board size is a six foot eight to seven foot 4 inch mini-gun for the humungous days. The ideal wind direction is east to north-east. Accomodation can cost from twenty to fify dollars per night. Fly in to the international airport Faa'a , of the capital Papeete. The best swells are from the south for Teahupoo so of course the best time is the Southern Hemisphere's winter April to October.

Teahupoo is not always double overhead megasized. When it is about three foot it can be a very long enjoyable wave. And you can tell people that you surfed Teahupoo. Just don't tell them that it was not like on all the newsreel pictures. From April to september Teahupoo can get crowded on the weekends and even during the week when the wind is blowing the right way.
