Surfing South Africa

Durban is a pretty cool spot and was raging with development and there was a crash and everything looks like it was made in the sixties. There are some sick waves off the pier that peak with lefts and rights breaking relatively hollow. The locals surf really good as well. They get into some hollow tubes. You do not even have to paddle out, you just jump off the piers. Along the beach there are african guys doing street theater and busking.

East London is down the coast from Durban. The waves break on a reef just off the shore. It is mainly a right hander. The waves can get nice and hollow. It may be a bit sharky so bring the toilet paper for when you shit yourself.

Jeffreys Bay is sick and is a dream for a natural footer. It is cool. J-Bay just breaks one after the other tubing all the way to the beach. What can you say about a wave that breaks so perfect. Words are inadequate to describe it. It breaks so long and so hollow.

Cape Town seems like a pretty quiet place to go to. It is a bit eerie with lots of kelp and sharks. You think about the sharks all the time, and the water is cold all the time. You will definitely need a wetsuit to surf on the Atlantic side of South Africa. The kelp helps to keep the waves a lot glassier.

Some of the best places to surf in south africa are:
Durban
East London
Jeffreys Bay
Cape Town
