Greece Surfing Travels

Fly into Athens and pick up a car and head to the Mediterranean Sea. Drive through some historic pastoral scenes to the hills surrounding the sea and you will be greeted with a sparkling glassy sea adjoining some lush greeh hilly coastline. Just keep going until you find a sheltered bay and any rideable waves. The waves may be sliding along some cliff face wedging up and starting to peel all the way to the shore break. You can surf the Ionian Sea, the Aegean as well. The climate is mild and wet in the winter and hot and dry in the summer.

Agamemnon Island is near Methoni, Pelloponisos. It is a rocky reef with powerful rights and lefts. The bottom is rocky covered with sand. The best wind is east. You will have to paddle for fifteen minutes to get to the island. You can get there by car from Athens. It takes about four hours to get to Methoni. The best waves are between November to December and March to May. If you go looking betwen Methoni and Koroni you may discover many more waves.

Lakouvardos is a right and left beach break in the Pelloponisos area. It is four hours from athens to Kaparisia village. After Agia Kiriaki you turn right and then five kilometers later look for the sign to Lakouvardos beach. It is a decent wave in the cente of the beach.

The IOnian Sea has some great surf spots in Greece. Amoudia is in North west greece and is twenty kilometers from Parga town in the village of Amoudia. It has a right and a left on a beach break. The best wind is a north-west and works on all tides.
