Angola Surf Adventures

Angola in WEst Africa is a county that has been beset by wars for many years. This may be still the case. It is a shame because if you are a goofy footer you would be missing out on some sick left handers. Angola has got some of the best and longest left handers in Western Africa. Your legs will turn to jelly as you do turn after cutback ad infinitum.

Ambriz in the far north of Angola is a left hand point. Chicala is a beach break very close to the capital city of Angola, Luanda. South of Luanda on the very tip of the Mussolo sand spit is Mussolo Point. There are left handers breaking on the sand bottom. The left hand point at Buraco is half way up the Mussolo sandspit and is one of the longest left handers around. It breaks along the point and breaks for ages down the bay along the sandy bottom. Catch a wave for a kilometer or two and walk back along the bay or just go for a sleep. At the start of the sandspit is Shipwreck a beach break with sandbars that formed around the shipwreck that is on the beach. Left and right sandbanks give you a nice wave at this angolan surfing spot.

Miradouro is a left hand point on the way to cape ledo, south of the capital of angola, Luanda. Cabo Ledo is very similar to Buraco in that it is a very hollow and long wave that breaks along the point for up to a kilometer. Between Cabo Ledo and Buraco your legs will get a very good workout indeed. Angola is goofy foot heaven. The lefts just break and break forever. I may even consider switching stance and heading off to surf Buraco and Cabo Ledo myself. Keep going further south to Sumbe and Benguela if you get sick of surfing perfect left hand points and want a beach break surf for a bit of variety.
