Taxco is south of Mexico City and is set on a steep hillside and is one of the best preserved colonial towns in Mexico. It used to be a silver mining town that went boom. Six pesos will get you a nice breakfast. The hotel melendez was the first hotel built in Taxco. They have an amazing view of the city. The tortilla is the best meal and you fill them with anything. The annual silver fair has great deals in silver jewellery and ornaments. If you want silver you must go to Taxco. You can buy some beetles and eat them and they say that they are good for the health. They seem to eat lots of bugs in Mexico. I guess you have to get your protein somehow.

December 12 is a national holiday for the festival of Our Lady of Guadalupe or the virgin mary. She is the patron saint of mexico. They walk for days on a pilgrimage. In 1531 an indian had a vision and they built a church on the site. Millions come to the church on a pilgrimage to our lady of guadelupe.

Bull fighting is not for everyone and mexico city has the largest bull fighting ring in the world. The matador fights the bull with his purple cape and tries to do it as gracefully as possible. But half the matadors that fight bulls in the ring are killed in the ring.

Twelve miles south of mexico city is a network of canals and gardens. Here you can get some feel of the ancienty city and how it might have been like. It is the famous weekend spot for mexican families. You can rent a boat and go navigating through Sochinoco canals. There are floating markets if you start to get hungry. There is an island of dolls for the curious tourists and they say they are like spirits and the old guy takes care of them and dresses them up. It can be a weird and creepy experience.

Mariachis are a guitar band that deals with unrequited love. It is a strange celebration of the pain of love. All over the country they come to Mexico City to play for the patrons of the bars and in the square. They also have drinking songs about trying to forget about the sad love that you lost. Mexican men and women dance in the squares of Mexico City to the mariachi band. You can hire a mariachi band for your party of wedding.

There is a butterfly sanctuary near Mexico City. The monarch butterflies are an extraordinary sight and are well worth the visit.
