The largest concentration of hotels are around the center(zocolo) but they can be noisy and dirty so have a look around to find a good one. You may even find a hotel room with monogrammed ashtrays. It should have a nice comfortable bed and a good view of the city.

The eco-taxi is supposed to use environment friendly fuel but most of them do not. Check that your taxi is registered and that the meter is running. Do not hail a taxi at night from a street. La Merced market has been there since the aztecs. They have fruit and all sorts of vegetables. There are things that you will never have seen before. There is such a variety of chilli - one hundred and fifty different types. And you can eat a bug if you are mad. And even mosquito eggs in a tortilla with some cactus.

There are workshops that make all sorts of crafts and in every home there is a statue of our lady of guadalupe. Glass makers recycle broken glass to make beautiful and useful glass objects. There are jugs, glasses, pots, vases. Four main bus terminals will get you anywhere you want to go.

Less than one hour away is the ancient city of Teotihuacan. Teotihuacan about 400 AD was one of the biggest cities in the world and it went into decline and the people disappeared. The archeological site opens early so get there before it gets hot. The city is famous for its pyramid. The feathered serpent is featured. The citys influence was huge on later civilizations such as the aztecs. After the city's decline the place became an aztec pilgrime destination. Climb up the pyramids for some exercise and a top view. They have hand rails, so you do not fall off the edge and die.

Old Mexico city was full of canals but are now filled in. There are original aztec carvings set into modern buildings. The mexico city museum of anthropology is full of artefacts. All the ancient statues are there with the old gods. The zocolo is the center where the pyramids used to be and the spanish conquerors made churches on top of them.

There are 550 tequilas in some of the bars. Lick the salt, then suck on the lemon, then drink the tequila in one shot. If it is good tequila you will not get a hangover. Have a sangrita after the tequila. But be careful of the devil tequila. Throw the salt over your shoulder three times.

Alternative medicine is big in mexico. You can get all sorts of magic herbs that come from ancient beliefs. You can get cures for insomnia, ulcers, circulation, and piles. Masked wrestling will cost you three dollars to get in. And you can barrack for the good guy or the bad guy. Some of these wrestlers have become politicians and environmental activists. All the performances are rehearsed and the crowd go wild. The old ladies get carried away because it is all real you know.
