Sicily in Italy is a mountainous wild island. Corleone is modern and bustling with life. Village life has not changed in centuries and the traditional atmosphere remains intact in the local villages. There are baroque churches, medieval castles with men hanging out at the piazza, gossipping at the local coffee shop, and steep cobbled streets. Mount Etna is a huge volcano and you can see black lava a few meters high from an eruption only a couple of years ago. You can see peaceful villages amongst fluttering olive trees and orange and lemon trees just under the majesty of the volcanic Mount Etna. You may to lucky and at night see lava flowing down the volcano's side like a sliding red lightbulb. A deep gorge with a waterfall that flows into a fast flowing stream can be found above Golo dell Alcantara.

The Casle of Schiavi is a baroque castle in the town of Fiumefreddo , near to Taormina on the Ionian sea coast. There are heaps of gorgeous little hamlets and villages perched atop the steep hills. The small hilltop village of Savoca is just a short bus ride from Taormina. So is the sweet village of Forza d'Agro and its church called the Madre di Forza d'Agro.

In the capital of Sicily, Palermo, there is a masterpiece of art, the opera house called the Teatro Massimo. Crimson velvet boxes soar above six tiers of upholstered magnificence. This Sicilian gem has a painted dome ceiling with Murano glass chandeliers. In the foyer the acoustics are so good that you can hear a whisper.
