Kythera Island Greece Romantic Adventures

The singers in the bar at kythera sing about their island of aphrodite. Aphrodite was born of the foam in the sea around the island of kythera just off the tip of the peloppenes. With only three thousand residents kithera has not much to do except gossip and milk the goats. They make the best cheese from the goats milk and keep bees. Kytheran honey is good because there are lots of fragrant plants and the climate is sunny and has good weather. Kythera is famous for myrtle honey.

The people gossip all the time and they know what you have done before you have even done it. this is not your usual greek island with crystal clear water , it has tropical waterfalls and contrasts with stark scenery and tropical beauty. Kythera has special ties with the western and eastern mediterranean peoples. Kythera has been conquered by many cultures but they have all left. The only excitement is embellishing gossip. The gossip gets you down at first but after a while you get over it.

Old ways do not seem to work anymore, like fishing. The mediterranean is almost fished out. Fishing in greece is getting harder and harder. UP to five years ago there was a decent amount of fish and now pollution is causing a huge decrease in fish numbers. The young people are leaving to go to the cities for work and opportunities. The social life is a bit quiet and you have to make your own fun. kythera comes alive in spring and summer and for the rest of the year goes into hibernation. At the northern tip the crowd are getting rowdy at the local bar. The taverna has got the blues music warming up. After a hard work everyone gets down to some serious zorba dancing. The restaurants offer peasant greek food.

There is a trade in organic olive oil from kythera and there is provincial development that is changing the island of kythera. The stone castles and bridges are in disrepair. How are they going to make kythera an island of the future. Young kytheran are leaving but others are moving in, coming back from Australia and other countries that greeks migrated to. The balance will keep the character of Kythera alive. Grilled chops, goats cheese and love by the sea.
