Hungary Eastern Europe Travel

Situated in the heart of eastern europe, Hungary was a communist country that is now independant. Coming in from the west, the first view that you will get is the train station of Budapest. It has a fast developed tourist infrastructure and even touts to meet you to take you to the youth hostels. The youth hostel at ten dollars a night is pretty cheap. One of them used to be a mental hospital. The most scenic way to see the city is by the tram. Buy a ticket before you get on the tram or you may get fined lots of money. The blue danube separates buda from pest.

The traditional sausage is the normal fare for Hungarians. They have a wide array of sausages. All the communist statues have been put in one place into a sort of Communist theme park. Budapest at night is supposed to be a happening place. Hop on a scooter and zoom around looking at the trendy night spots.

Budapest is famous for its spas. Under the city there are tons of hot thermal bubbling water. The waters are good for medical conditions. In winter it is very cold and the people still come down because the mineral water is very healthy. After your spa, go and get a massage and feel like a million bucks. After Budapest you can hitch hike to Eger into the hungarian countryside.

Eger is the wine region of Hungary and has a famous minaret. Eger is popular with visitors and is closed to traffic so get on your walking boots to walk around the town. The wine in the region is called boars blood. September is the time that they pick grapes in the eger region of hungary. During the soviet era, the best wines went to russia but now they make fine wines to export around the world. After a hearty breakfast it is time to get down to work picking grapes. At night you can have a singalong in the bar and drink heaps of wine and get really drunk.

The hungarian language is very difficult to learn and the writing is very hard to decipher. From eger you can get to lillafured to see the plains of Hungary. The great plain is massive and covers one third of the country so get yourself a horse and go riding the plains. The famous whip cracking cowboys display their skills for the tourists. They do tricks such as laying the horse down in the long grass. You can get a tour on the plains quite easily but you may also get a sore bum. Travelling in Hungary is easy, just hop on a train, they are very efficient, but check for a visa.
