The Golden Ring Moscow Russia

The area around moscow is called the golden ring and there are many small towns with big histories. Go south to Vladimir. In the 13th century the mongols tried to capture the city by hostaging the prince. They eventually sacked the city. There are cathedrals galore, and then some. If you want something different then this is the place. At the antique shops you can find very old icons. To get around the golden ring, get on a bus, because it is difficult to hire a car. Get along to suzdal after you have given Vladimir a good shake. There are the onion top cathedrals in plenty, there is no rush and the restaurants are 300 years old. Most places do have english menus as well. You can get pork pies, potato dumplings.

The monastery of our saviour was founded in the 14th century. Religion is big, there are lots of churches and monasteries. There are old ladies selling cows milk and you can play cards with the locals. In Russia there is a saying -Nothing is permitted , everything is allowed. If you are keen you can find a car to hire. Just drive around and stop wherever you feel. The people are generous and warm hearted and will bring you into their homes and lavish you with hospitality.
