Diving at Rangiroa Tahiti

At Rangiroa Tahiti you may see manta rays, turtles, dolphins and sharks galore. Rangiroa is an oval-shaped circle of atolls with a large lagoon in the center. The main passages in the atolls of Rangiroa Tahiti are Tiputa and Avatoru. Rangiroa has some of the most brilliant diving in the Pacific Ocean. If you need help there are dive instructors a-plenty ready to assist in any way that they can. Rangiroa has five dive clubs with very good facilities. Some dive clubs take video of your dives and you can take a video home of your diving adventure on the reefs of Rangiroa.

Diving off the main passages in Rangiroa requires that you hang on for dear life because the current will drag you. So hang on and check out the edge of the drop off seeing schools of grey sharks. You will also see barracuda, jackfish, dolphins, moray eels waiting to bite your finger if you stick them into their holes. Stonefish can grow up to the size of a football. You will have up to forty meters of visibility to see those inquisitive reef sharks come gliding past you.

There are two towns on Rangiroa - Avatoru and Tiputa. Avatoru has got a post office, a supermarket for those attack of the munchies, and a couple of banks. A day trip to the blue lagoon is a must for the adventurous tourist. You will see sharks in the shallows after jumping off the boat, and you also might spot some stingrays. To get to Rangiroa you can fly into the capital of Tahiti, Papeete, with Air Tahiti for example and then catch a connection to Rangiroa. Accommodation can range from about $10 for a camp site, a basic room for $20, $100 for a budget bungalow. Dive packages cost about $600 for ten dives and there are courses available for learning divers.
