Sydney is the most well known city in Australia with the most well-known icons such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. But of course Sydney has the most beautiful asset of any city in the world - the harbour. It is easy to get to Sydney from overseas and most airlines fly here direct daily. From other cities inside Australia there are a wide variety of possibilities from plane, to rail, bus, or car. Sydney is about 12 hours by road from both Melbourne and Brisbane, the closest capitals.

To see the harbour just get out on a ferry and it will take you over to Manly or any one of the other wharfs scattered around the harbour. There are also special tourist tours of the harbour and you can even go for a ride on a tall ship such as the James Craig. They even have a jet boat for tourists. Sydney has dozens of beaches within reach from the city center. Bondi is very close to the city and is very popular with overseas visitors and a chance to go for a swim at Bondi should be at the top of the itinerary schedule. Other Sydney beaches include Coogee, Maroubra, Manly, and Narabeen.

Paddington Markets are held each weekend and are a chance to find that unexpected bargain or just people watching or soaking up the free and easy atmosphere. Sydney has also top class hotels and restaurants and is well known as a major entertainment and culinary center of the world. If you want to shop till you drop then you will get all the temptation you will like in Sydney. Just wander along the inner city center streets such as George Street or Pitt Street. Sydney has entertainment to suit every taste from the Mardi Gras to theater such as Phantom of the Opera.

If you want to see the beaches of Sydney then there is no better start than at Coogee Beach. Head along the cliffs to Clovelly bay and hence to Bronte Beach which is a great place to grab breakfast. Tamarama beach is where the beautiful people love to hang out. Another forty five minutes walk should see you pop out at the end of Bondi Beach. If you want fresh seafood then the best place to go is the sydney fish markets. If you want to see Sydney Harbour then the best way to get around is by ferry. Go to manly and the northern beaches and go all the way to palm beach and climb barrenjoey headland.

If you want to explore the waters around Sydney then get below it. It is said to be fantastic diving. Off magic point, the water is clear and full of sharks. They hang around in the caves below Maroubra and you can dive in the caves to see the gray nurse sharks swim around you. The shark dive is a real thrill for new and advanced divers. The sharks will come just inches from your face.
