Sydney has a number of restored convict building such as the mint building. Rock Island or Fort Denison was built for convicts to suffer solitary confinement. It has a lighthouse now. Goat Island is another small island which served as the set for the TV show Water Rats. You can get a cruise to any of these islands.

Hyde Park in Sydney is a peaceful oasis in the busy city. There are historical statues and monuments. The gardens have native plants and birds such as the sacred ibis. The Australian Museum exhibits natural history. The art gallery is a popular tourist spot and you can see Australia's finest art works. The Botanic Gardens have the first farms of the first fleet contained within it as well as native flora and fauna. The monorail links Darling Harbour and Chinatown. It runs every day and it departs every five minutes. DArling Harbour has many convention centers and attractions. You can get a boat cruise from Darling Harbour. Sailing boats can also be chartered. Or you can catch a ferry to any parts of the harbour such as darling harbour, taronga park zoo, and manly.

Manly has a great beach and aquarium. The Sydney Harbour Bridge was built in the nineteen-thirties and is one of Australia's most identifiable icons. It has a road and a railway line. You can climb up the bridge to see the spectacular view and takes about three hours. You will get overalls and a safety line and at the top you get a 360 degree view of the harbour. The pylon lookout is an alternative sight seeing spot for the faint hearted or lazy. Sydney has a history based on immigration and after WWII many immigrants came here to live. Sydney is a cosmopolitan city with elegant department shops and mini boutiques. Fashion is easy to get into when you are shopping in Sydney.
