North Stradbroke Island

North Stradbroke Island is one of queensland's jewels. It is an island off the coast of Queensland that is accessible by car ferry. The trek to North Stradbroke Island is well worth it and is very accessible from the Gold Coast. It takes about two hours to get there from Brisbane. NOrth Stradbroke Island is one of the largest sand islands in the world. The towns have a low key village atmsosphere. The island is stooped in Aboriginal history which is maintained to this day. To get around you can hire a car. Main Beach and Frenchmans are the best beaches on North Stradbroke island. Main Beach is best during Northerly winds. Frenchman's Beach is not for the faint hearted.

Cylinder Beach has some excellent right hand waves. It has a sand bottom and works best at low tide. It breaks the same conditions as Kirra and Noosa. So an easterly swell and south east wind are the optimum weather conditions for Cylinders. Make sure that you surf to your limitions and ask the locals if you are not sure. Have some respect to the people that live there and don't hog the waves and you will be fine. Take your turn to catch a wave and do not just paddle inside all the local crew and snake them. They will just burn you mercilessly.

There are several top notch resorts that are near to Cylinders Beach and are very luxurious. The villas offer the convenience for large groups and families. A trip up north is a great experience and gives you time to unwind from the stress of the city and the job. Go to the beach and get wet. To go on an adventure around the island make sure to taste all the local produce. The restaurants use fresh seafood that has been caught that day. Fresh prawns are readily available so make sure you try them out. Local Honey is a delight to taste and use. Cook some fish on the barbecue to get the beautiful flavours and eat with some delicious fresh salad.

North stradbroke Island is more relaxing than beaches on the Gold Coast. There are plenty of activities such as bush walking to get you fit. On the other side of the island there are sheltered bays for fishing where you can get your boat in and out easily. You may never want to leave. Another way to get fit is to try sand skiing on the sand dunes on North Stradbroke Island. Sand boarding is a great thing to try with Straddie Adventures. Climb up the dunes and then start with the easy slopes if you are a beginner. With a little instruction you will be sliding down the sand hills with ease. PUt your feet in the bindings and keep the board straight and let gravity do its job. Bend the knees and try not to turn or get an edge at first because it is a lot harder than snowboarding. Sand is a lot more compact than snow. There is also sea kayaking if you want a unique adventure.
