Phillip Island Victoria

Phillip Island is a short trip from Melbourne and is a favourite holiday and recreation area for the whole of Victoria and Australia. Its rugged coastline has crashing waves and tranquil bays. Phillip island is famous for its fairy penguins. Before sunrise the ocean beckons the penguins avoiding the predators and the crashing waves. They scamper out to sea. Mutton birds are early morning risers and co-exist with the penguins and they journey thousands of kilometers to get to Phillip island each year. Seal rocks can be viewed by binocular or you can take a ferry ride for a close up look at the seals basking on the rocks. It is one of life's wonders while the penguins go through the moulting season. Each night they clean each other for the next day. They preen each other and in the water the penguins are as graceful as dolphins. Every year thousands of people from around the world come to phillip island to see the fairy penguins parade each night as they jostle for position to get into and out of the water. The penguins ignore the people as they wander up the beach to their burrows for the night. They walk in waddling one after the other.
