Trekking the Kokoda Track/Trail Video

The Kokoda Trail is one of the most challenging treks for young and old Australians and is more of a pilgrimage than a bushwalking trek. The Kokoda Trail is 96 kilometres long and goes through some of the hardest most rugged country in the world. There are jungles and mountains and steep steep valleys. The kokoda trail has almost mystic significance for Australians because of the diggers that held back the Japanese during the second world war from invading Australia. The Australian soldiers suffered incredible hardships and showed immense courage against horrific odds. The aussie diggers forged a bond with the New Guinea tribesmen who supported them during the fighting along the kokoda trail and called them fuzzy wuzzy angels.

The Kokoda Trail trek today is extremely difficult and hazardous. It is a challenge to the body and the spirit. But the benefits will be a boost to your inner strength. Make sure that you bring along light clothing and solid walking shoes. Malaria tablets, hat, insect repellant, and a raincoat are essential things to put into your backpack to bring along. The best time to take the trek to kokoda is from May to October. A kokoda trek can take up to ten days and you can walk from port moresby up the Owen Stanley range or fly to kokoda and trek back the other way. A first aid kit with band aids and antiseptic is essential especially for those blisterd feet. Make sure that your shoes are well worn in before you start the trek. It is also an extremely good idea to get fit before you go and start training immediately by going bushwalking up and down mountains at home or dragging a tyre up and down the soft sand at the beach.
