Ararat is known for the beautiful gardens and a trip would not be complete without a trip to the orchid gardens. The chinese heritage center is set in traditional chinese settings. Hamilton is the birth place of ansett airlines and there is a museum of ansett airlines. Reg Ansett first flew from Hamilton to Melbourne. IN the museum you will see a Fokker aircraft just like the original airline. This is definitely a place for the history buff. The Lake Hamilton tourist park is just opposite the Ansett Museum and has room for all manner of accommodation. Bring your caravan or stay in one of the cabins.

Hamilton calls itself the wool capital of the world. The big wool bale is just out of town and you can see the history of shearing and see a fair dinkum shearer use the old shearing shears clip the wool off a sheep. The modern sheep shearer is demonstrating too and the modern shearer can do two hundred sheep a day. The stores specialize in woollen items of course.
