Deniliquin New South Wales

Deniliquin is a pioneering town in western new south wales that was established in 1842 on the banks of the Edwards river. There are pleasant summer days and it is pastoral country. The largest rice mill is here, producing rice for shipment around the world. It is a bird watchers paradise and a boon for farmers. When they harvest the rice they cannot get enough rice to the mill when it is in full production. Deniliquin has a nature walk along the weir that holds the water back for recreational water use - fishing swimming, boating. Sheep have made Deniliquin world famous. Around Deniliquin it was originally developed as a merino stud and has grown a lot in recent and previous years. There is a long history of merino sheep growing and the production of good wool well known around the world.

The bush walk along the banks of the Edwards River at Deniliquin is a fine outing and you will see mainly red gum which are commonly found in areas that have been flooded from time to time. There are some very old trees and some younger trees. There are hollows in some trees used by nesting birds and the local animals. The trees hold the riverbank together. The old schoolhouse holds onto its pioneering spirit.
