Pune (or Poona) is the home of the Osho commune where they revere the guru Osho or as he used to be known rajneesh. They used to be called the Rajneeshis, and wore red or purple clothes and were well known for their sexual liberation. Well, that is what the story was, I dont know what the reality is. The Bhagwan was infamous for his views on sex and his heaps of rolls royce cars. You have to have an Aids test before you can get into the Poona ashram. And there are lots of rules that you will have to follow to be in the Osho commune.
There are special shaking meditations and practices and some people have been there for more than twenty years. Most commune livers have felt that they have not fulfilled their potential even though they had money or a career. Wearing red is considered better for meditation which is sometimes done as trance dancing. Love is free they say. Osho was very irreverant and attacked the hypocrisy of politicians and world leaders. When you have tasted wealth and feel that it is not fulfilling then you are ready to meditate, he said.
Pune is located in the west indian state of Maharashtra and has a population of about four and a half million people. The Ganesha Festival is held in Pune each year in the month of August or September. It celebrates the Hindu elephant god Ganesha. Most neighbourhoods will put up an idol of Ganesha with decorated lights and lots of music. The ten day festival ends in a carnival procession through the city. In December the Sawaai Ganharva Music Festival is held in Pune. Famous classical indian music performers play their music for the length of the three day festival.
