Jerantut Malaysia

Jerantut in the Malaysian state of Pahang is 180 kilometers from Kuantan and 200 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur. It is a noted tourist and historical region and is the stepping off point for treks into the Taman Negara which is a National Park with the oldest rainforest in the world. To get to the ferry terminal in Kuala Tembeling is a journey of 18 kilometers. From Kuala Tembeling you can take a pod shaped boat to Taman Negara. The Taman Negara has a tribe of aboriginal inhabitants called the Orang Asli with pronounced negroid features much like the Australian aborigines. You can shoot the rapids, go into a scary bat cave and watch the elephants.

From Kota Baru, I caught the 1 pm SKMK bus to Gua Musang. I stayed at a $35 hotel with Television, Air conditioning and HOT water. Sheer bloody luxury. Gua Musang was a nice little town with these high hills all around it. I caught the train from Gua Musang to Jerantut. The train is a wild trip and goes through the heart of the jungle in central Malaysia. Jerantut is a nice enough place but nothing to do. Maybe I will go to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow. To get to the Jungle railway go to Gua Musang and at Kuala Lipis get off and catch the bus to Kuala Lumpur. The bus from Kuala Lipis goes to the Pekeliling Bus station. At Gua Musang you can stay at eh Rest House for RM16 or the Hotel Alishan or the Hotel Merling on jalan Besar for RM25 per night.
At Kuala Lipis you can stay at the Gin Loke Hotel - 64 jalan besar(only 100 meters from the bus station) or Appus Guest house - 63 jalan besar.
At Jerantut you can stay at the Green Park Rest House(Jalan Besar 8) or the Jerantat Rest House which is across the railway line on the way to Kuala Lipis.
