When you go to Goa from Mumbai on the train, treat yourself to an air-conditioned carriage and a sleeper. It will only cost you a few dollars more and it is well worth it. If you take the cheap seats, you will only save a dollar or two and you will probably have to sit on the floor next to the toilet or something or wedged in between someone's bag of rice or chickens. The trains in India get very crowded sometimes. You can get cups of chai along the way from the railway sellers. Goa is an old hippy haven. You can hire an enfield motor bike for about six dollars a day but bring your drivers licence. More and more hotel resorts are being built every year. Jimmys teepee village has teepees to stay in. you have fans and electricity. Get a mosquito net. The open air shower is a treat as well.

The markets are full of fish and meat and the local produce. Pickpockets are dealt with by a public beating. In Goa the portuguese left churches and converted lots of indians to Christianity. The hippies sold stuff to get home and in the seventies they come here first. There are bongs to buy and you can buy a motorbike. You have to be calm and deal with things in India. no-one wants to hurt you.

Panaji is the state capital of Goa and is located on the Banks of the Mandovi River. There is an international airport at Dabolim near Vasco. Seafood is very popular with the locals and visitors. Have a nice feed of crabs, lobster, prawns, mackerel, or sardines. The staple food for people in Goa is fish and rice. The tourist season in Goa starts in September and goes through to March. During these months the weather is quite pleasant, being dry and cool.

Budget Accommodation will cost about 200 rupees per night and for that you will get a basic double room with a fan. Mid range hotels will set you back about four hundred rupees a night. This will get you a real toilet and hot and cold running water out of a tap. Sheer bloody luxury i hear you say.
