Buddhist Stupas of Borobudur

Borubudur is the most intriguing building in the whole of south east asia. It offers a route to spiritual enlightenment. The spires are called stupas. It is built in the eighth century and tells you how to reach nirvana. Each level is a teaching method for you to learn how to reach enlightenment. The first level is of course the world of earthly desire. The second level is the first sacred level and show the life of Buddha. It shows the buddha having a dream and pictures of his mother giving birth to him. The next levels tell the story of buddha in his pilgrimage in search of spiritual enlightenment.

The lovely panels show the pilgrim getting somewhere and is about the power of meditation to overcome the physical world. And is also about the psychic powers such as levitation that are traps on the way to enlightenment on the path to buddhahood.

Enlightenment is getting closer and this is shown with stupas upon stupas of bell-shaped stupas. Even the most enlightened budhhist monks see a portion of what enlightenment means. Borubudur tells pilgrims how to find a path to nirvana, and that suffering comes from desire and is now an incredibly popular place. Tourists feel the power and magic of Borubudur whatever their beliefs.
